Practice Team

Goyt Valley Medical Practice has two surgeries and a large team of Health Care Professionals. We work closely with local specialists, including visiting hospital consultants, local pharmacists, opticians and social services.

District Nurse Team:

The District Nurse Team provide a wide range of care to meet the needs of patients, carers & clients within the community setting.  We predominantly visit housebound patients but also provide daily walk in duties within the GP practice.

We provide: Wound care, Continence advice (assessment & treatment), Nursing care (advice & assessment), Cancer care (advice, assessment & liaise with associated services) and Leg ulcer care (advice & treatment).

We liaise closely with: Social services, Macmillan Nurses, Community Rehab team, Diabetic nurses and Voluntary agencies.

Our service is wide ranging and incorporates other service providers to ensure a holistic patient centred care approach is maintained.

Mental Health:

Depression and anxiety are two of the most common conditions affecting at least 1 in 5 of the population and can lead to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness.

The Mental Health Service offers timely support and assessment for anyone experiencing psychological distress or more complex mental health conditions.  Assessments are offered by two nurse specialists and a skilled mental health support worker.

Referrals can be made through a member of our practice team or through self referral.

Physiotherapy:

Physiotherapy can be offered via a GP referral for a range of acute conditions for example joint or back problems resulting from an injury or arthritis.  Problems related to poor posture, stiffness or repetitive use can also be treated.  A range of techniques can be offered i.e. manual therapy, exercise prescription, core stability training and posture re. Education or electrical therapeutic treatments.

Practice Nurses:

The practice nurse team provides a varied service which includes monitoring chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.  They are also involved in travel and vaccination clinics, diagnostic testing and screening procedures, such as blood pressures, ECGs, smears and blood taking, and in house consultant clinics.  They offer appointments at varying times at both Whaley Bridge and Chapel surgeries.
